With the launch of Intel’s latest Raptor Lake Refresh and Meteor Lake, the company seems to be shaking things up for what was once a pretty much bog standard naming scheme for their laptop CPUs. For example, the Raptor Lake Refresh lineup of processors will still retain their Core HX naming scheme, with the top end chip being the Core i9 14900HX, a chip with a max turbo frequency of 5.8GHz and a maximum turbo power of 157W. The Raptor Lake Refresh also adds a new lineup denoted as Core 7, Core 5 and Core 3. The Meteor Lake lineup on the other hand, does away with the Core i3, Core 15, Core i7 and Core i9 lineup, opting for a simpler Core Ultra 9, Core Ultra 7, and Core Ultra 5 lineup. It appears that Intel’s use of Core Ultra is geared towards desktops and laptops that would use AI that emphasize extended battery life.
